Portrait of Johannes Brahms

Brahms, Johannes

Johannes Brahms was born in Hamburg in 1833 and died in Vienna in 1897. Johannes Brahms was a German composer. His works include four symphonies, four concertos, a requiem, much chamber music, and hundreds of folk song arrangements and lieder. His music is still performed and admired all over the world today. He collaborated with Ede Reményi and, through Joseph Joachim, received the support and guidance of Robert and Clara Schumann. Although he was innovative, he was considered conservative in the War of the Romantics, and he regretted his involvement in it. His independent, expressive musical legacy remains alive worldwide and continues to be received with great attention.
