Brahms: The Symphonies

Maestro Mariss Jansons is undoubtedly one of the most important conductors of his generation. In Germany, alongside Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann and Daniel Barenboim, he is one of the few conductors who is known to the general public and continues to generate widespread interest. His complete recording of the Brahms symphonies was released on individual SACDs in 2011 and 2012. Now it is being released in a more affordable CD box set. "Jansons takes a dip in the pool of fine sound." (Andreas Friesenhagen in Fono Forum 7/2012). "This particularly labor-intensive, contrapuntally dense performance is experienced in Jansons as exceptionally stark, stirring, almost Furtwängler-like in its struggle." (Christoph Braun in Rondo, July 2012). "Mariss Jansons confirms the good impression he had already made as an excellent Brahms conductor in the 3rd & 4th symphonies." (Rémy Franck in Pizzicato, July 2012)
