Even 30 years ago, Roger Norrington surprised audiences with his historically informed interpretations of Romantic music. His collaboration with the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart, spanning over a decade, led to the so-called “Stuttgart Sound,” in which Norrington’s conviction that even Romantic music should be performed without vibrato reached perfection. Starting with Mozart and Haydn, whose works Norrington has interpreted on several CDs published by hänssler CLASSIC, the conductor gradually explored the world of Romantic music.
