Mariss Jansons - Portrait

Mariss Jansons will turn 75 on January 14, 2018. The BR congratulates him with a 5-CD edition from BR Klassik. Mariss Jansons played a decisive role in the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation's decision to establish its own CD label for his two orchestras and choir. The artistic freedom to decide which musicians to work with and which recordings to release, control over production and design, reliable releases in conjunction with international tours, and much more were important to him. As the music world knows at the latest thanks to his tenacious and therefore ultimately successful campaign for a new concert hall in Munich, the maestro is uncompromising not only in terms of musical quality. And so in 2009, the BR released the first 9 albums under its own management with recordings by the Bavarian Radio Choir and Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Radio Orchestra on its then-new BR Klassik label. With Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony performed by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Mariss Jansons, the hundredth production has now been released in 2017. The newly released CD box set Mariss Jansons – Portrait by BR Klassik contains a total of 5 CDs, offering a representative cross-section of the classical symphonic repertoire – and a cross-section of the repertoire for which the chief conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra is repeatedly and especially praised for his outstanding interpretive qualities.
