The SWR recordings

The enduring fame of the Austrian-German conductor Karl Böhm is based on qualities that were unanimously attested to him throughout his long professional life by audiences, musicians, and critics alike: discipline, rigor, and precision in the preparation of compositions, coupled with an unpretentious subordination to the work and the composer during performance. After several years as a conductor at the world's great opera houses, he left administrative duties behind and worked as a celebrated guest, touring, concert, and opera conductor. In this capacity, he also returned time and again to Stuttgart, where he was gladly invited whenever there was something important to celebrate, such as the inauguration of a broadcasting hall or a gala concert on the occasion of Schiller's 200th birthday.
