She is one of the most senior and one of the most influential pianists: Idil Biret. The Turkish pianist, who celebrated her 75th birthday in 2016, was a tireless performer live, but especially in the recording studio, never content with the "standard repertoire" and yet achieving her greatest success precisely with it. Unforgettable, for example, is the Grand Prix du Disque Frédéric Chopin, which she received for her complete NAXOS recording of Chopin's piano music, just as unforgettable are her magnificent Rachmaninoff and Schumann recordings, and just as unforgettable the artist's beginnings, when she recorded her first album as early as 1959, at the age of only 18. She studied with Nadia Boulanger, completed her studies at the age of 15 with no fewer than three awards, and perfected her playing over many more years with Alfred Cortot and above all Wilhelm Kempff, whose advisor she became until his death. She performed under conductors such as Leinsdorf, Monteux, Scherchen, Kempe, Copland, and Roschdestvensky, and was the dedicatee of numerous compositions, the most significant of which was undoubtedly Jean Françaix's Piano Sonata. All this and much more can be found in this incomparable retrospective, limited to 500 copies, with no fewer than 130 CDs and 4 DVDs, which has just the right thing for every Idil Biret fan: namely, everything the Grande Dame of the concert piano ever recorded in the studio and live.
