Portrait of Frédéric Chopin

Chopin, Frédéric

Frédéric Chopin was born in 1810 in Żelazowa Wola and died in 1849 in Paris. Frédéric Chopin was a Polish composer. He maintained worldwide renown as a leading composer of his time, whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation." As a child prodigy, he completed his musical education and composed his early works in Warsaw before leaving Poland at the age of 20, less than a month before the outbreak of the November Uprising of 1830; at 21, he settled in Paris. His independent, expressive, imaginative, and influential musical legacy remains alive worldwide and continues to be studied with great attention.
