In 1840, Ignaz Moscheles and François-Joseph Fétis published their “Méthode des méthodes,” a comprehensive piano method covering everything from introductory lessons to demanding virtuoso pieces. The collection concludes with the “Études de Perfectionnement,” for which they attracted pianists and composers such as Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, Sigismond Thalberg, Felix Mendelssohn, and Adolf Henselt. It also features lesser-known figures such as Jakob Rosenhain, Théodor Döhler, and Édouard Wolff. British pianist Daniel Grimwood is the first to record the complete collection. His improvised transitions link the individual pieces together, and he plays on a London-based Érard grand piano.
