“I will never tire of raving about Mieczysław Weinberg’s opera “The Passenger.” I have heard it three times now, studied the score, and each time I have come to better understand the beauty and grandeur of this music. A work masterfully perfected in form and style” (Dmitri Shostakovich). “The Passenger” is considered perhaps the most important, most powerful opera about the unspeakable horrors of the concentration camps. After the work was “rediscovered” at its staged premiere during the 2010 Bregenz Festival, the Oper Graz dared to bring this deeply moving music back to the stage.
