Piano Works [Resilience]

Pianist Yulianna Avdeeva plays music by Władysław Szpilman, Dmitri Shostakovich, Mieczysław Weinberg and Sergei Prokofiev on the album “Resilience”, three composers who – in their own way – lived through times of great upheaval. The focus of the album is on Władysław Szpilman, a Polish Jew who survived the Second World War thanks to the power of his music and is known today as the title hero of the award-winning Roman Polanski film “The Pianist”. Avdeeva received the unique opportunity to play the piano in Szpilman’s house. This special relationship with an indomitable musician helped her through a difficult time herself: The album was created between lockdowns and performance restrictions. And so the album radiates that comforting power that Avdeeva herself was able to draw from music.
