Composers: Rachmaninoff, Sergei · Tchaikovsky, Pyotr Ilyich
Artists: Beczała, Piotr · Deutsch, Helmut
Tenor Piotr Beczala presents a series of romances by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, together with the acclaimed song accompanist Helmut Deutsch. The romance was the most popular genre in music in 19th and early 20th-century Russia and was appreciated by professionals and amateurs alike. Both Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff enriched this genre with their lyricism and melodic inventiveness. Enhanced by Deutsch's wonderful accompaniment, Piotr Beczala performs these songs with great feeling. He is aided by his deep understanding of Slavic languages. His lyrical expression and bel canto skills are perfectly suited to the equally Russian and cosmopolitan musical language of the two master composers.
