When more than 500,000 people gathered in New York's Central Park on June 26, 1993, they wanted only one thing: to hear the voice of the greatest tenor of the 20th century, Luciano Pavarotti. A year earlier, Pavarotti had thrilled a crowd in London's Hyde Park, and here in New York he proved once again that he was a global star. He was accompanied by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Leone Magiera, as well as by flautist Andrea Griminelli and The Boys Choir of Harlem, whose voices can also be heard on albums by Michael Jackson, Kathleen Battle, and many other artists. The recording of this concert contains the famous Puccini arias "Nessun dorma" and "E lucevan le stelle," as well as Neapolitan songs such as "O sole mio."
