Sehnsucht

The terms Romanticism and Late Romanticism direct our thoughts to musical eras, but the selection on this CD is based on a literary art that encompasses romantic ideas and experiences such as sorrow, joy, love, fear, despair, expectation, and longing, which have existed throughout all time. This album brings together works by composers Alvin Vikman, Agneta Skölds, Laura Netzell, and Valborg Aulin. It also features choral works by Anton Webern, Peteris Vasks, and Ludvig Norman. For more than 200 years, interest in choral singing has inspired choral compositions of many different kinds. It laid the foundation for the use of words and sounds by the human voice, which has fostered unity, community, and musical innovation. Therefore, the compositions by Ludvig Norman, Jörgen Jersild, and Alvin Vikman demonstrate a continuity in humanity's need for words and sounds to work together, regardless of the era, and offer us new insights and experiences into what it means to be human.
