Description

The story is a celebration of heroism and magnanimous kingship and takes us to 9th-century England, where King Alfred the Great is fleeing from the Vikings. Two centuries after the spectacular failure of its premiere, this little-known opera seria was revived at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo. It can now be understood as a reflection on humanitarian values and gestures of resistance against the destructive power of war.

Following its release on DVD and Blu-ray (Dynamic 38031 and 58031), the live recording from Bergamo is now also available as a pure audio production.
