“Roberto Devereux” is Gaetano Donizetti’s fourth and finest work dedicated to the Tudor era of English history, and it is considered by many to be the ultimate masterpiece among his Italian operas. The tragic tale is a story full of intrigue and revenge at the court of the aged and weary Queen Elizabeth I, with Donizetti’s powerful score expressing all the intense drama and sorrowful emotions that bring the opera’s finely drawn characters to life. This star-studded production by the Donizetti Opera Festival was highly acclaimed by critics. The Orchestra Donizetti Opera is conducted by Riccardo Frizza, its artistic director, who was awarded Best Conductor at the 2023 Tutto Verdi International Awards. The outstanding cast is led by Jessica Pratt, Simone Piazzola, Raffaella Lupinacci, and John Osborn. The performance was filmed in 4K in Bergamo in 2024.
