Following their acclaimed recording of Weber's "Freischütz", the Dresden Philharmonic, under chief conductor Marek Janowski, presents another German opera classic with Beethoven's "Fidelio". For this production, they have collaborated with a first-rate cast with proven experience in German opera: Lise Davidsen (Fidelio/Leonore), Christian Elsner (Florestan), Georg Zeppenfeld (Rocco), Christina Landshamer (Marzelline), Cornel Frey (Jaquino), Johannes Martin Kränzle (Don Pizzarro), and Günther Groissböck (Don Fernando). This was originally intended to be a live concert recording, but the pandemic prevented performances. Fortunately, it proved possible to record Beethoven's masterpiece in two studio sessions.
