Taeye / Vellère: Alchemy

The trios of Alex De Taeye and Lucie Vellère create a dialogue between two contrasting yet deeply complementary voices of 20th-century Belgian music. They were contemporaries, grew up in the same cultural climate, and embody two faces of the same era: Alex de Taeye was considered institutionalized and influential, a recognized figure of the academic milieu. Lucie Vellère operated more intimately, almost secretively; for her, chamber music was a refuge of freedom and sincerity. Both trios, although exceptional in their respective catalogs, share the same aspiration for clarity, balance, and sensitivity. Each possesses its own aesthetic: that of De Taeye, the heir to a lush, controlled post-romanticism; that of Vellère, imbued with inner gentleness and a heightened sense of color. Placed side by side, these two works form a mirror portrait of a musical Belgium between tradition and modernity, between public radiance and poetic seclusion.
