Shchedrin: Carmen Suite / Respighi: Pines of Rome

Two famous orchestral works that were created in the 20th century but each breathe the spirit of 19th-century music can be heard on this new album from BR-KLASSIK: the "Carmen Suite," masterfully arranged and developed in 1968 by Rodion Shchedrin based on the famous melodies from George Bizet's opera of the same name, and Ottorino Respighi's well-known symphonic poem "Pini di Roma" (Pines of Rome) from 1924. To this day, these works remain among the most popular compositions in international concert halls. The recordings were captured during concerts in November 2017 at the Philharmonie im Gasteig (Shchedrin) and in May 2019 at the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residenz (Respighi). Jansons, who passed away at the end of November at the age of 76 due to heart disease, can be heard here once again with unbridled temperament and the joy of playing that distinguished him until the very end.
