Reger / Mahler: Works

For Max Reger's 150th birthday, Das Neue Orchester and the Chorus Musicus Köln, under the direction of Christoph Spering, present some of his little-known solo and choral-orchestral compositions. As is often the case in Reger's work, these compositions also contain religiously transcendent elements in the form of chorale quotations. Reger was very much in tune with the spirit of his time: the grand idea that would have found no place in the operas of his era is transferred to the concert hall. The Hebbel Requiem op. 144b bears audible parallels to Brahms' Requiem. The album is completed by orchestral songs by Gustav Mahler. You can hear the "Songs of a Wandering Journeyman" and the "Rückert Songs".
