Description
Because of its plot, "La Serva Padrona" became a symbol of bourgeois emancipatory aspirations in the run-up to the French Revolution. Above all, the exclamation "Zit", with which Serpina bosses around her pantoffelhero Uberto, became proverbial. Musically, Pergolesi's work was considered a model for breaking away from the Baroque style, so that the piece had a major influence on the emergence of opéra comique.
