Description

The violin, a string instrument with four strings, has always been in its perfection the focus of composers throughout stylistic periods from the Baroque to the modern era. Hardly any other instrument, apart from the concert grand piano, has had so many significant solo concertos dedicated to it, by Locatelli, Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and many more. It seems an absurd notion that this instrument with its four strings could represent polyphonic works from the piano, song, and orchestral repertoire as a solo instrument, but precisely this has been seen as a challenge and composed again and again by the great virtuosos from the early Romantic period to the modern age. Paganini, Ernst, and their successors pushed the technical possibilities of the violin to the absolute limit. With this CD, we present the most important of these works, which are otherwise relegated to the drawer of "salon pieces" or "encores." The result is musical pearls, ranging from virtually complete songs like the Erlkönig to Isang Yun’s masterful arrangement of Bach's Musical Offering. Her debut CD “1939” on Solo Musica with the Munich Symphony Orchestra under Kevin John Edusei garnered worldwide acclaim, including in the magazines BBC Magazine, The Strad Magazine, Gramophone, and the American Record Guide. This new release is now the first solo album by violinist Fabiola Kim, hailed by the New York Times as “a brilliant soloist” who plays “with extraordinary precision and intensity.” She is an energetic artist and enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, and educator.
