Carl Orff’s "Carmina Burana" is one of the best-known and most frequently performed works in classical music. The Latin title refers to a collection of songs from Benediktbeuern dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, with texts in Medieval Latin, Old French, and Middle High German. Orff selected 24 of these songs, whose themes range from the fickleness of fortune to prosperity, from the transience of life and the joy of the return of spring to the pleasures and perils of drinking, gluttony, gambling, and lust. In June 2024, the Orquestra de València, one of Spain’s major symphony orchestras, together with the leading local boys' choir and one of Spain’s oldest choirs, the Orfeón Pamplonés, performed this epic work under the musical direction of Alexander Liebreich at the Palau de la Música in Valencia. They were joined by soloists Sara Blanch, Joaquín Asiáin, and André Baleiro. The live recording of this vibrant and captivating concert evening is now available.
