Michael Volle - A Portrait

Baritone Michael Volle, born in 1960, has long been one of the great singers in German opera. Awarded the German Theater Prize “Faust” and named “Singer of the Year” by the magazine Opernwelt as early as 2008, he has never before had the opportunity to showcase the full range of his artistry on a single CD. The label BR-KLASSIK now presents the first portrait album featuring Michael Volle with the Munich Radio Orchestra under the direction of Ralf Weikert. A long-standing member of the Bavarian State Opera, Volle is reluctant to be pigeonholed and has selected pieces for the CD that are intended to showcase “as broad a range as possible” of opera, concert music, and song. Three arias by Richard Wagner take center stage, with Volle holding a special affinity for “Die Meistersänger von Nürnberg”: “Sachs is one of those roles you never tire of, as you discover something new every time. Sachs is simply the greatest role in my repertoire in every respect.”
