Martinů: Symphonies Nos. 5 + 6

In November 2021, Sir Roger Norrington announced his retirement from active conducting. During his tenure (1998–2011) as chief conductor of the former Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra of the SWR, Norrington dedicated himself to historically informed performance practice and applied the insights of this style to a modern orchestra. His artistic credo became established as the “Stuttgart Sound.” This new release from SWR Classic presents two previously unreleased recordings of relatively rare repertoire: the Symphonies Nos. 5 & 6 by the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu.
