Composers: Mahler, Gustav
Artists: Järvi, Paavo · Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich
Vinyl edition of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 7 with Paavo Järvi and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, with which they continue their complete cycle of Mahler symphonies. A work considered one of Mahler’s most complex and demanding symphonies. “The Mahler we encounter in the Seventh is more multi-layered, darker, and more philosophical than the Mahler we know from his earlier works,” says Paavo Järvi. Mahler, who was under extreme pressure as director of the Vienna Opera, composed this symphony during the summers of 1904 and 1905 on the shores of Lake Wörthersee in Austria. Also known as "Song of the Night," the symphony is characterized by rich instrumentation—including guitar and mandolin in the fourth movement—as well as impressive orchestral effects. "Here, nature roars," Mahler said of the tenor horn solo at the beginning of the work.
