“Její pastorkyna” (Her Stepmother; commonly known as “Jenůfa”) is an opera in three acts by Leoš Janáček based on a Czech libretto by the composer, based on the play “Její pastorkyna” by the Czech writer Gabriela Preissová. It is set in a Moravian village and tells of the suffering of two half-brothers, Števa and Laca, and the woman they both love, Jenůfa. Janáček studied folk music from Moravia and incorporated it into a folk-like score for the opera. This is a historic recording from 1976 featuring the highly popular Swedish soprano Laila Andersson-Palme in the title role.
