Górecki / Penderecki in Memoriam

“Górecki, Penderecki – in memoriam” brings together four works by Polish composers dedicated to Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Krzysztof Penderecki. Piotr Radko’s “Largo” for clarinet and string quartet and Marek Nowakowski’s String Quartet No. 2 “Grandfather Songs” commemorate Górecki. Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa’s “Quintetto per archi n. 2” and Zygmunt Krauze’s “Threnody” for two pianos and string quartet were composed in memory of Penderecki. Three of the four works receive their world premieres here.

The Silesian Quartet performs alongside clarinetist Roman Widaszek, double bassist Jan Kotula, and the Lutosławski Piano Duo, featuring Emilia Karolina Sitarz and Bartłomiej Wąsik. The album is conceived as a musical tribute to two composers who significantly shaped 20th- and 21st-century Polish music.
