Since the revival of Baroque music in the late 1980s, Iphigénie en Aulide has been the only French opera by Gluck that had not yet been recorded on period instruments. On the occasion of its 250th anniversary in 2024, Julien Chauvin, Le Concert de la Loge, Les Chantres du Centre de musique baroque de Versailles and a stellar cast under the direction of Judith Van Wanroij, Stéphanie d'Oustrac, Cyrille Dubois, Tassis Christoyannis, Jean-Sébastien Bou and David Witczak have filled this gap with a new recording of the work that revolutionized the aesthetics of French opera. It is based on in-depth musicological and stylistic research conducted by the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles in collaboration with Julien Chauvin, who presents his first opera recording here.
