Glass: Selected Piano Etudes

Giusto Di Lallo confronted his audience with a question typical of his creative approach: "Why release another recording of Philip Glass's Piano Etudes when there are already dozens of them?" When he first acquired the sheet music for the etudes and began to analyze and study them, he was "almost disappointed" that many pianists had deliberately altered the meaning of some of the etudes. The main discrepancies that caught Di Lallo's attention primarily concerned the tempos, although he also noted that pianists often changed the dynamics and phrasing as well.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the publication of Glass's Etudes, Di Lallo selected a number of pieces and attempted to remain as faithful as possible to the composer's original intentions. Using a scholarly approach, he adhered strictly to the score to maintain the tempos, dynamics, and phrasing exactly as written. His goal was to restore the work to its original spirit and present the etudes in their most authentic form, creating a kind of reset point after ten years of various "personal" interpretations.
