The album "Electric Fields" features modern arrangements of centuries-old vocal music as well as new compositions for soprano, piano, and live electronics. The meditative compositions of the medieval polymath Hildegard von Bingen serve as the starting point for this album. Hildegard's texts rise into the spiritual sphere in both Latin and the Lingua ignota she invented. The popular love songs of two Italian Baroque composers, Barbara Strozzi and Francesca Caccini, also served as inspiration for this album. Several works by the American composer Bryce Dessner round off the eclectic program. Soprano Barbara Hannigan and pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque are accompanied by composer and performer David Chalmin on this captivating journey through meditative and atmospheric musical landscapes. Together, they create an intense and unique sonic universe.
