Description

German baritone Benjamin Appl traditionally celebrates Christmas with Bach chorales and carols from Germany, Austria, America, Great Britain, Sweden, France, and the Netherlands. He is accompanied on this truly universal Christmas celebration by Germany's most famous boys' choir, the Regensburg Cathedral Boys' Choir, to which he belonged in his youth, as well as the Munich Radio Orchestra and instrumentalists, including his mother on guitar: 'Christmas awakens intense memories and emotions in all of us. It takes us back to our childhood: that feeling of magic and excitement, so often rekindled by the sight of a traditional nativity scene or the lights on the Christmas tree, or by hearing Christmas carols... With all these images in my head, I returned to my hometown to record this album with "my" boys' choir. When I found myself among the choir singers again after more than twenty years and heard the familiar sound, the feeling was very intense.'
