With Ferruccio Busoni's "Doktor Faust", the first opera production by the Bavarian State Opera is being released by OehmsClassics. "Doktor Faust" is considered Busoni's central work, which he had been preparing for a long time before working on it for years. The libretto was also written by Busoni. Despite the long working process, he was unable to complete "Doktor Faust" before he died on July 27, 1924. The live recording of the Munich premiere in the unfinished form left by the composer was made at the 2008 Opera Festival. Wolfgang Koch can be heard in the title role, who sang Wotan in the anniversary Ring in Bayreuth that year. The singer is sure to receive a good deal of attention as a result, so the new CD could hardly have been released at a more opportune time.
