Busoni: Piano Works

Martin Jones’ early career followed the standard pattern of solo recitals and chamber music. He found permanent employment as a pianist with the burgeoning Nash Ensemble, which had been founded in 1964. In 1968, he won the first Myra Hess Award. This helped him make his international breakthrough, with a concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 at Carnegie Hall in New York. At the suggestion of his manager at the time, Emmie Tillet, Martin went to the Nimbus Studio on June 5, 1972, and recorded a selection of pieces by various composers, including almost all of the piano works by Felix Mendelssohn. However, there was a delay of several years before the first releases appeared in 1977. Later, the artist's collaboration with the record label resulted in an extensive discography. He recorded the Ferruccio Busoni pieces presented here in 1980.
