Composers: Boscovich, Arturo Díez
Artists: Boscovich, Arturo Díez · Casares, Daniel · García, Camilo · Malaga Symphony Orchestra · Perles, Berna
Arturo Díez Boscovich tells selected episodes from Miguel de Cervantes’ novel “Don Quijote” with music and spoken text. Camilo García serves as the narrator; the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga plays under the composer’s direction. Soprano Berna Perles and guitarist Daniel Casares also perform. The 21 sections follow Don Quixote’s devotion to Dulcinea, his encounter with Sancho Panza, and the battle against the windmills. A fandango and a habanera for Dulcinea draw on Spanish dance forms. After the appearance of the Knight of the White Moon, the musical narrative concludes with a “Miserere” and an epilogue. Díez Boscovich combines humorous and dramatic scenes with the quieter moments of the story.
