Description

During his 13 years as chief conductor of the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra, Roger Norrington performed and recorded a considerable part of Berlioz’s core repertoire. The box set here contains the Requiem, the opera “Benvenuto Cellini”, the oratorio “L’Enfance du Christ”, the early overture “Les Francs-juges” and, naturally, the “Symphonie fantastique”. Norrington has always sought to come as close as possible to the sonic ideal of the respective composer, and has applied this accordingly to the size and instrumentation of the orchestra, tempi, phrasing and articulation, and the deliberate avoidance of vibrato.
