Bach: Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord

Two artistically distinct but complementary personalities, who have been united in a successful partnership for years, take on a milestone of chamber music. On the one hand, Francesco Corti, one of the best-known harpsichordists and protagonist of five highly acclaimed albums released by the Arcana label. On the other hand—for the first time with Arcana—Ilya Gringolts, an extremely versatile violinist who is active in the field of contemporary music but is also deeply passionate about the Baroque repertoire and historically informed performance practice. Evidence of this is his recording of Locatelli's Il labirinto armonico (2021), which was awarded the Diapason d'Or and selected as an Editor's Choice by Gramophone. Together, Corti and Gringolts dedicate themselves to Bach's Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord, the first major example of concert sonatas for keyboard and melodic instruments. The program is rounded off by Tertia deficiens, a piece by the contemporary composer and Baroque violinist Andrew McIntosh (Grammy nominee), which was commissioned specifically for this project to build an impressive bridge between past and present.
