The Vienna Boys' Choir is more than just one of the oldest boys' choirs in the world: they are an institution that, even after now more than 500 years, keeps the great tradition of the boys' choir alive. Haydn himself sang here. Schubert also began his musical career with the Sängerknaben, and Antonio Salieri sat on the recording jury at the time. Even today, the Sängerknaben delight audiences with their superb artistry. The recordings collected here impress not only with the clarity of their declamation, both textual and musical, but also radiate an irresistible charm of authenticity through their light Viennese accent. In the performances by the Vienna Boys' Choir, it is therefore not just about perfect pronunciation and intonation, but also about a musical and sensual quality that is often overlooked in Mozart and Haydn, yet is absolutely essential. In addition to an excellent complete recording of Handel's Messiah, the box set also contains complete recordings of Haydn's The Creation as well as Mozart's Coronation Mass and Requiem, plus works by Bach and Bruckner and a bonus album of Christmas carols. Max Emanuel Cen?i?, now world-famous as a countertenor, shines in the recordings as a boy soprano.
