The St. John Passion, characterized by profound dramatic and spiritual intensity, was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1724. Based on the Gospel of John, it recounts the final moments in the life of Christ, from his arrest to his burial in the tomb. The St. John Passion is one of the most sublime works in his repertoire, immersing the listener in a mystical and contemplative mood. Gaétan Jarry conducts the Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal as well as the Tölzer Knabenchor. The concert was recorded in April 2024 in the Chapelle Royale of the Palace of Versailles.
