Description

Johann Sebastian Bach was undoubtedly the greatest musical thinker of his time. Described by conductor and pianist Hans von Bülow as the "Old Testament of Music," the "Well-Tempered Clavier" is considered one of the most important works ever written for the piano. Each of these 24 preludes and fugues embodies its own mood. Bach's joy in combining technical precision with freedom of expression has made this composition an indispensable part of Western culture for centuries. Sir András Schiff is today considered one of the best Bach interpreters worldwide. This first complete performance of the first book of the "Well-Tempered Clavier" at the prestigious BBC Proms was, in the eyes of the English newspaper The Independent, simply "overwhelming".
