Description

Francisco António de Almeida (1702–1755) is one of the most important composers of the Portuguese Baroque. “Mio Bel Tesoro” presents arias from his two works “Gl’Incanti d’Alcina” (1730) and “Il Vaticinio di Palladio e di Mercurio” (1731), fragments of the scores of which were only recently rediscovered. Both works were written for the court of King João V in Lisbon; the arias performed here received their modern premiere in 2024.

Sandra Medeiros, Johanna Falkinger, Marco Alves dos Santos and Lucía Caihuela are accompanied by Os Músicos do Tejo under the direction of Marcos Magalhães and Marta Araújo. The program is completed by Almeida’s “Sinfonia in F major” and the “Introduzione” to “La Giuditta”.
