Yule

The celebration of Christmas in Northern Europe dates back to the transition from the ancient pagan culture of the Germanic peoples to the more formal spirituality of the newer Christian rite. On this album, these two traditions stand side by side, forming a matrix in which a cappella voices and improvising instruments meet in a synthesis of the secular and the sacred. With their first release, Trio Mediæval achieved a "fascinating journey of music of timeless beauty." With the album "Words of the Angel," the group was inducted into the elite circle of early music ensembles in 2001 and introduced to a broad international audience. Founded in 1997 and nominated for a Grammy, the vocal ensemble consists of founding members Linn Andrea Fuglseth and Anna Maria Friman, as well as Jorunn Lovise Husan, who joined the group in 2018.
