Description
In his debut album Xenotopia, South Tyrolean Simon Öggl designs a musical terrain that oscillates between belonging and alienation. The composer and producer's unique sonic language stems from the recontextualization of acoustic and electronic composition techniques and sounds. By permanently questioning the nature of sound, the distinction between traditional and novel sound generation simultaneously becomes obsolete. The analog evaporates into the digital and vice versa.
Simon Öggl is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, DJ, and sound engineer. He is a member of the live electronic band Drahthaus and has completed composition commissions for Klangforum Wien, ensemble chromoson, airborne extended, and InnStrumenti, among others.
"Xenotopia" is a musical reflection on the human relationship with technology in the field of tension between nature and culture. This aspect is particularly evident in the album's creative process. The goal of the musical process was to intertwine composition and electronic music production so that both creative aspects enter into a dialogue and merge into one another. To this end, basic musical material was composed for instrumentalists, which was used in its original form and subsequently processed and manipulated in further work steps to finally bring it to a final version for the album.
