Worms: The Investigation

Born in Paris in 1993, composer and pianist Nicolas Worms creates a space with his music where contradictory times and places converge. He developed the concept of "music-fiction," as seen in the FLOT series, which was released by Alpha Classics in 2024. This new album grew out of the "simple yet confusing need to summon the unknown within myself. What can I draw from my heritage and my keyboard instruments?" says Worms. Using four instruments—the grand piano, the CP-70 electric piano, the Prophet-V analog synthesizer, and a modular synthesizer system—he embarks on an extensive sonic investigation, using his instruments as "pieces of evidence." L’Enquête is divided into four parts and a coda. Some pieces are composed in the style of a toccata or a nocturne. Others are improvised, more melodic in nature, while others move into the realm of the abstract. As with any investigation, the goal is to shift perspectives, retrace one's own steps, and be surprised by unexpected discoveries.
