Description

Hans Winterberg, raised in the Prague crucible of the new Czech musical tradition, is one of the few surviving Jewish composers of his time. He himself understood his music as a bridge between the West and the Slavic East. His starting point was Schoenberg, he himself said, but in fact he cultivated a Central European impressionism, which he was able to skillfully combine with complex rhythms. This album brings three orchestral works from different periods of creation to light: the Symphony No. 1 (from 1936), the Piano Concerto No. 1 (1948) and the "Rhythmophonie" (1966/67).
