Works for Violin [Yr]

Folk music has always been an important source for Norwegian art music – composers have drawn particularly on the existing repertoire for the Hardanger fiddle. The instrument's various tunings, as well as its 8 strings (four playing strings and four drone strings), offer a wide range of sounds and a wealth of harmonic and melodic possibilities. Ragnhild Hemsing has studied both the violin and the Hardanger fiddle. She is equally proficient in the classical repertoire as she is in the folk repertoire, which has been passed down solely by ear. Her CD entitled "YR" is an active contribution to keeping these two areas of Norwegian music and their close connection alive.
