Roberto Fabbriciani has been an important reference for flutists and composers for decades. Fabbriciani has not only revolutionized flute technique but also contributed to the updating of compositional strategies, as the instrument was always put at the service of composition. ‘The goal,’ says Fabbriciani, ‘is to make art music accessible to a wider audience. Technology has enabled a new leap forward, but composition does not arise from the availability of new tools, but because innovative musical thinking requires these tools to express itself.’ This album focuses on music dedicated to Fabbriciani (with the exception of Maderna’s piece). However, Roberto Fabbriciani is not only the highly acclaimed interpreter of contemporary music whom we all know, but also an outstanding interpreter of the traditional repertoire, with an extensive discography ranging from Antonio Vivaldi to Johann Sebastian Bach and Ottorino Respighi, to Astor Piazzolla and beyond. The past nourishes the present, and the present contains the seeds of the future, as these recordings clearly show.
