Description

Kurt Weill's "Street Scene" ranks among his most successful American stage works and combines elements of opera with Broadway songs and dances, spoken dialogue, and a distinctly dramatic plot. The work, which premiered in 1947 and is based on Elmer Rice's play of the same name, is set in 1920s New York, while its musical references are clearly influenced by 1940s American popular music.

The lyrics are by Langston Hughes and Elmer Rice. Starring are Giselle Allen as Anna Maurrant, Robert Hayward as Frank Maurrant, Gillene Butterfield as Rose Maurrant, and Alex Banfield as Sam Kaplan. James Holmes conducts the Chorus and Orchestra of Opera North.
