Description

This first installment in a planned series of editions focuses on the chamber music of British composer Douglas Gordon Weiland. Although his extensive oeuvre includes orchestral, choral, and chamber music, his name remains known to only a relatively small circle of music lovers to this day.

The works for violin and piano collected here provide a comprehensive insight into Weiland's musical language. His music combines melodic expressiveness and formal clarity with a distinctive harmonic profile, moving confidently between lyrical intimacy, dramatic intensity, and virtuosic brilliance. The three violin sonatas are at the heart of a program complemented by the "Phantasy Minuet: To a Butterfly", the "Homage Fantasia", and the early "Capriccio".

The works are performed by violinist Markiyan Melnychenko and pianist Rhodri Clarke.
