Weeks: Plein Air

"Plain Air" is a musical homage to one of the most extraordinary and famous works of nature writing in the English language: "The Living Mountain" by Scottish author Nan Shepherd. This 53-minute work embeds Shepherd’s breathtaking, crystal-clear prose within an expansive and elemental musical landscape. Pianist Siwan Rhys (GBSR Duo) creates an atmosphere of vast stillness, surrounded by a halo of electronic sounds. Singer Lucy Goddard (Exaudi) traces Shepherd's journey, delivering her text in a simple manner as she delves ever deeper into the mountain world and into herself. The slow unfolding of "Plain Air" over nearly an hour of music creates a deeply immersive listening experience, in which Shepherd's unique poetic voice, as well as the transcendental beauty and mystery of the Cairngorms, are brought to life.
