Dmitri Tcherniakov is considered a “rebel and cosmopolitan” among today’s opera directors (according to Deutschlandfunk Kultur). Whether in Milan, New York, or Berlin, his productions are widely discussed, highly acclaimed, and often a thorn in the side of the conservatives’ outdated understanding of opera. The production of “Der Ring des Nibelungen” at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in autumn 2022, with Christian Thielemann conducting the Staatskapelle Berlin, was hailed as a worldwide triumph, not least thanks to its stellar cast. Among those heard are Michael Volle, Anja Kampe, Andreas Schager, Mika Kares, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Claudia Mahnke, Robert Watson, Vida Miknevičiūtė, Violeta Urmana, Stephan Rügamer, and Rolando Villazón.
After the four parts of the tetralogy were released individually on DVD and Blu-ray in 2024, the boxed set is now available exclusively on Blu-ray in the best video and audio quality.
